A wonderful crowd of onlookers, many from GTBL and East York baseball past, were on hand Monday night at Stan Wadlow Park, to pay tribute to the life of Che Andrews.

There were laughs and tears combined with stories and hugs, as people mingled about sharing memories of the big man with an equally big heart. Long time teammate Duncan MacLellan presided over the pre game ceremony which saw heart wrenching statements from Che's immediate family, long time manager Sal Stabile, past teammate/friend Drew Roberts and Newmarket manager Matt Richard. League President Nolan Revin was the final speaker, unveiling the GTBL's decision to rename the Presidents Award- the Che Andrews Memorial Award. Che was the 2022 Presidents Award winner, and he will now be memorialized on the award for years to come as his peers strive to come to the park with as much genuine love for the game as he had.

After the ceremony, the game was started at 6:11 a final tribute to the number 11 Che wore in his years with the club. Almost like a Hollywood script, the Bulldogs came out strong in game one, and earned their first win of the year as Che smiled on from above.
