2018 AGM highlights

Written by Rev

The 2018 Annual General Meeting of the GTBL was held Sunday Jan. 21, and saw the following highlights.

2018 GTBL executive was announced.

President- Nolan Revin(TH)
Vice President- Sal Stabile(EY)
Treasure- Steve Marshall(PICK)
Secretary- Matt Nailer(LEA)
It is the first year for Matt Nailer who takes over for Jeff Gruchy as the new Secretary. The league wishes to thank Jeff for his service over the past couple of years.

The Newmarket Hawks announced that Matt Richard will take over as the field manager for 2018, replacing Sean O’Brien as the bench boss. Again, the league wishes to extend a thank you to Sean for his years on and off field. Sean expects to stay with the club, both with the stick and in a lesser involved coaching role.

The second meeting of the year addresses the league playoff structure and season schedule, and is slated for February 11.

Ricciardi named playoff MVP

Written by Rev

Peter Ricciardi is the 2017 GTBL playoff MVP. After an excellent regular season which earned him a second team all star selection, the Pickering outfielder had himself a huge playoff.

Over seven games Ricciardi posted a .321 AVG, scoring seven runs and clubbing two home runs, which included a walk off in game one of the finals. He drove in six, stole four, and played outstanding defense for the Red Sox all season long.

Congratulations once again to all GTBL award winners in 2017.

Red Sox 2017 GTBL champions

Written by Rev

The Pickering Red Sox are the 2017 GTBL champions! With a 6-1 win in game four of the GTBL finals, the Red Sox upended the Thornhill Reds three games to one to take the GTBL crown in convincing fashion.

Trailing 1-0 headed to the ninth inning, the Red Sox made a winner out of starter Steve Horsley with a six run outburst. Mike Rodriguez provided the big blast, a three run home run off Reds reliever Mack Major who suffered the loss.

Congratulations to manager Steve Marshall and the rest of the Pickering Red Sox on both a league pennant and league championship, quite a 2017 season!
